Celebrating the 65th Birthday of His Majesty The Emperor of Japan

Majuro, Marshall Islands – February 21, 2025 – Her Excellency President Hilda C. Heine and First Gentleman Thomas Kijiner, Jr. joined H.E. Ambassador of Japan Soma Hirohisa, alongside Cabinet members and Nitijela representatives, in celebrating the 65th birthday of His Majesty The Emperor of Japan, Emperor Naruhito, at the Marshall Islands Resort Poolside.

In a letter sent to His Imperial Majesty Naruhito, President Heine conveyed heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of His Majesty’s 65th birthday, offering her best wishes for his continued health and happiness, as well as that of Her Majesty Empress Masako and the Imperial Family. President Heine also expressed the Republic of the Marshall Islands’ gratitude for the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and reiterated the shared hope of further strengthening these ties, particularly through opportunities for cultural exchange, educational advancements, and scientific endeavors.

As is customary, the celebration included the traditional breaking open of a wooden sake barrel, a ceremonial act symbolizing prosperity and good fortune, reflecting the positive and hopeful outlook for future collaboration between the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Japan.
