President Hilda C. Heine Awarded Honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of the South Pacific

MAJURO, MARSHALL ISLANDS – June 10, 2026 – H.E. President Hilda C. Heine attended the University of the South Pacific (USP) Marshall Islands graduation ceremony held at the Educational Cultural Center in Majuro, presided over by His Majesty King Tupou VI, Chancellor of USP. More than 120 graduates from across the Pacific were recognized for their academic achievements. During the ceremony, President Heine was also conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt) in recognition of her distinguished leadership, public service, and contributions to education and the advancement of the Pacific region.

In accepting the honor, President Heine expressed her gratitude to USP, describing the recognition as a reflection of the shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities and empowering future generations. She noted that education remains one of the most powerful tools for creating opportunity, strengthening communities, and preparing young people to lead with purpose and integrity.

President Heine dedicated the honor to the people of the Marshall Islands, acknowledging their confidence and support throughout her career as an educator, public servant, and national leader. She further expressed appreciation to the University of the South Pacific for its ongoing commitment to expanding access to higher education and empowering Pacific Islanders through learning and opportunity.

The ceremony brought together graduates, families, and members of the university community to celebrate the completion of studies and the beginning of new opportunities for graduates serving communities across the Blue Pacific region.
