Executive Order – Proclamation – State of Economic Emergency

MAJURO, MARSHALL ISLANDS – A State of Economic Emergency for the Republic has been declared following a Cabinet decision made on March 26, 2026. This action comes in response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has caused rising global fuel prices that are expected to significantly impact the cost of goods in the Marshall Islands. As a nation that relies heavily on imported fuel, food, building materials, and other essential supplies, these increases pose a serious risk to the livelihoods of the people.

Under the authority of the Disaster Risk Management Act 2023, Cabinet has invoked its emergency powers to address this situation. President Hilda C. Heine has signed and issued the Executive Order on behalf of Cabinet, formally declaring a State of Economic Emergency. The Government will continue to monitor developments closely and take necessary actions to reduce economic hardship and support the people during this time.
