President Kabua Summit Meeting With Japan Prime Minister Kishida

On December 8, 2023, His Excellency President David Kabua attended a summit meeting hosted by His Excellency Kishida Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan. During the summit meeting, H.E. President Kabua extended sincere appreciation and gratitude to H.E. Kishida for the warm welcome accorded to him and the RMI Delegation.

President Kabua expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for the experiences and benefits of his visit along with his distinguished delegates while on his visit in Tokyo, Japan.

Prime Minister Kishida congratulated President Kabua and the People of the Republic of the Marshall Islands for the opening of the new RMI Embassy in Tokyo.

Excellency, I reaffirm the Marshall Islands’ commitment to work together to address common opportunities and challenges. As evident by our establishment of a permanent residence, our relationship is here to stay,” President Kabua stated.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands and Japan have a deep cooperative relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations thirty five (35) years ago on December 09, 1988.  His Excellency President Kabua extended his most sincere appreciation and gratitude and reassured Prime Minister Kishida for his full cooperation and support to the people and Republic of the Marshall Islands of Japan diplomatic relations in years to come. President Kabua also delivered his congratulation of its 35th Anniversary diplomatic relationship between the two countries (RMI & Japan) since 1988.

The two leaders noted the close relations between the two countries and exchanged views on areas for further collaboration, such as climate change, maritime security, ALPS Treated Water, among others.

The President welcomed Japan in increasing its influence in the Pacific with its Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) and the Kizuna Policy, and further committed RMI’s participation in the upcoming Tenth Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10) next year. President Kabua looks forward to a successful PALM10 next year. Japan has been a long standard and key partner with the Pacific as a Forum Dialogue partner for 32 years.

In his remarks, President Kabua mentioned that the Human Rights Council (HRC) that RMI has pledged to uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights and to build space at the HRC for meaningful dialogue and cooperation. President Kabua thanked Prime Minister Kishida for confirming Japan’s support on the bid to be re-elected into the Human Rights Council once again in 2024.

Members of the delegation include Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Jack Ading, RMI Embassy in Japan His Excellency RMI Ambassador to Japan Bing, government officials from the RMI Embassy in Japan, Office of the President, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.//End//
