BERLIN, GERMANY – July 18, 2026 – H.E. President Hilda C. Heine participated in the Opening High-Level Plenary of the 2026 Berlin Climate Mobility Forum, where she joined world leaders in endorsing the Climate Mobility Principles, a global framework designed to guide how countries respond to the growing impacts of climate change on people and communities.
During her remarks, President Heine highlighted the unique challenges facing low-lying atoll nations such as the Republic of the Marshall Islands and reaffirmed the country’s longstanding call for stronger climate action and greater support for communities most vulnerable to climate change. She emphasized that efforts to address climate impacts must respect the rights, dignity, and aspirations of affected people, including their desire to remain in their homelands.
President Heine welcomed the Climate Mobility Principles as an important step toward strengthening international cooperation on climate-related displacement, adaptation, and resilience. Her Excellency underscored the need to move from shared commitments to concrete action through increased adaptation financing, stronger resilience-building measures, and support for community-led solutions.
President Heine also reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding the sovereignty, statehood, maritime boundaries, and cultural heritage of vulnerable nations facing the impacts of sea-level rise. She stressed that meaningful progress will require strong partnerships among governments, international organizations, civil society, and local communities.
The Berlin Climate Mobility Forum brings together leaders, policymakers, experts, and community representatives from around the world to advance cooperation and practical solutions to the human impacts of climate change.
