H.E. President Heine Attends 5th ROC (Taiwan)–RMI Presidents’ Scholarship Awarding Ceremony

Majuro, Marshall Islands – February 5, 2025 – Her Excellency President Hilda C. Heine joined students, parents, educators, and dignitaries at the 5th ROC (Taiwan)–RMI Presidents’ Scholarship Awarding Ceremony, where 77 outstanding students and in-service teachers were recognized for their achievements during the 2023–2024 school year. The event, held at the Marshall Islands Resort’s Melele Room, underscored the enduring partnership between the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Marking a significant commitment to education in the RMI, Taiwan President LAI Ching-te has announced an additional USD 500,000 contribution to the ROC (Taiwan)–RMI Presidents’ Scholarship, further strengthening the initiative first launched in 2017 with a USD 1 million donation by then-President TSAI Ing-wen. The scholarship continues to play a vital role in supporting Marshallese students, alleviating financial barriers, and fostering academic excellence.

During the ceremony, awards were presented by H.E. President Hilda C. Heine, Minister Gerald Zackios and ROC Taiwan Ambassador Steve C.C. Hsia, who also handed over laptops and color pencil sets—gifts from President Lai—to be distributed to schools through the Public School System (PSS). These contributions reflect Taiwan’s ongoing investment in the RMI’s education sector and commitment to capacity building.

The Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands extends its appreciation to Taiwan for this generous contribution and congratulates all awardees for their dedication and achievements.

Jeramman to the students and teachers for their outstanding academic performance!
