Her Excellency President Hilda C. Heine Site Visit to Enewetak Atoll
On Thursday February 22, 2024, Her Excellency Hilda C. Heine, President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands visited Enewetak Atoll with the Leadership, Traditional Leaders, Local Government and Enewetak community. Joining Her Excellency President Heine’s delegation were Honorable Jack Ading, Enewetak Senator Honorable Jackson Ading, Enewetak Mayor and his spouse Mrs. Ading, Honorable David Anitok, Ailuk Senator and also the Presidential Envoy of the Nuclear Legacy, Mr. John Silk, Special Advisor to the President and Government Officials from the Office of the President.
In her remarks, Her Excellency President Heine extended her warm greetings of Iakwe to the people of Enewetak and thanked the traditional leaders, local government for the spectacular welcoming songs and gathering on their humble shores. “The Government is committed to work closely with the Leadership of Enewetak to further strengthen the development of the Enewetak community,” said Her Excellency Heine. President Heine was the first Head of State to visit Enewetak Atoll and the community was very excited to meet HE President Heine. Enewetak Atoll is the 6th President Heine visited to the neighboring islands as she mentioned on the Inauguration ceremony speech last month January 22, 2024 that in this term she will visit all Atolls and Islands in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
After the program, President Heine and delegation site visit at Enewetak Atoll included a tour of the Radiological Laboratory and power plant. Departing from Enewetak, President Heine got to see the Runit Dome on air with Air Marshall Islands (AMI).
