New York, NY – 23 September 2024 – Her Excellency President Dr. Hilda C. Heine, Foreign Minister Kalani Kaneko and members of the RMI delegation were presented with $258M as part of the United States Government’s initial assistance to the people and Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands under the renewed Compact agreement.
The funds are to be allocated to the RMI Trust Fund as part of the US Government’s contribution ($200M) and FY25 Sector Grants and other funding under the Compact ($58M). It’s important to note that the latter amount represents partial funding, as additional funds are still being processed for allocation, with disbursement expected on or after October 1, 2024.
The check was presented at an official hand-over ceremony on the margins of the UNGA79 by Department of Interior Assistant Secretary Carmen Cantor and US Ambassador to the RMI Laura Stone. In attendance from the Marshall Islands delegation were Ambassador John Silk, Ambassador Charles Paul, Chief of Staff Emma Kabua Tibon, Foreign Secretary Isabela Silk, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
