Antigua and Barbuda, May 25, 2024 – Her Excellency President Hilda C. Heine attended the Gender Equality Forum, which was held just prior to the opening ceremony of the 4th International Conference on Small Islands Developing States (SIDS), at the Nelson’s Dockyard National Park in Antigua and Barbuda. Hosted by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), this special event gathered government leaders, civil society representatives, and private sector actors from various SIDS regions to discuss strategies to advance gender equality and empower women.
As a launching point for the forum, Her Excellency President Heine engaged in a dynamic roundtable session with Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica to reflect on key priorities for gender equality in SIDS. The discussion highlighted women’s leadership in action, opportunities, challenges, and a call for action.
Foreign Minister Kalani Kaneko, Mrs. Lorraine Kaneko, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Isabela Silk, Ambassador Albon Ishoda, Chief of Staff Emma Kabua-Tibon, Climate Envoy Tina Stege, and staff from the Micronesian Center for Sustainable Transport joined the Gender Equality Forum on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
